How does the module I sketched out fit within the minicourse?
I decided to use this week’s assignment to sketch the Module 2 and the first 4 learning objectives:
Module 2: Expectations for small groups at your school. After the completion of this module, the educators will be able to:
- Identify when the small group instruction is in their schedule. (It aligns with CLO2)
- Use the baseline assessments data to create 4-5 groups of students in your classroom. (It aligns with CLO2 and CLO6)
- Schedule biweekly meetings to collaborate with Paraprofessional and Interventionist. (It aligns with CLO3)
- Design a system to collect data and track progress and share it to peer-review online. (It aligns with CLO6)
Reflection about the storyboarding process
The Storyboard is a powerful tool for the Instructional Designer to get a first approach to the Design phase. It is a helpful step to translate ideas into realistic slides or videos for a learning experience. Instructional Designers could also use the storyboard to check errors in the flow of the learning experience, and make the necessary adjustments before continue with the designing and development process.
In addition, it works as a first prototype to share with the rest of the stakeholders such as Subject Matter Experts, Graphic Designers, Project Managers, etc. It is easier for someone with no background in Learning or Instructional Design, to understand a storyboard than a script.
Reflect on the software program or template used to create the storyboard
I decided to use Google Slides for several reasons:
- Share-ability: Google Slides is really easy to share. You can invite other users as viewers to only see the document; or editors, to make adjustments. In both cases, they can add their comments in the document with their feedback.
- Familiarity and Experience with this app: I have been using Google Slides for several years and I like the simplicity and flexibility to create presentations.
In addition, I created my own template in Google Slides taking some ideas from this Power Point template in the E-Learning Heroes website.
In the storyboard created for the first part of the Module 2, I was able to insert the Animation video that I created last week, so I had an opportunity to see how well this feature will fit in the final Module of content.
In the future, I would like to try new tools specifically created to design storyboards such as StoryboardThat or Storyboarder.
