This week, I had to design and create a Checklist for evaluating digital media and Open Education Resources (OERs).
First, I reviewed the resources provided, and these are what I found more useful in the creation of my checklist tool:
Then, I used Google Doc to create my own template. I included the categories more relevant for the learning experiences that I design. I reduced the options to evaluate to three to increase the simplicity to use:
- Good: This is of good quality and is well defined.
- Poor: Is not of good quality or poorly defined.
- Unknown: This is not easily defined or assessed.
At the beginning, I added a drop-down option, but it was harder to transfer that interactive tool to a PDF format, so I transform the three options to a color-code checklist. I also include a Notes/Comments space to include relevant information in the Evaluation related to the Instructional Designer specific needs.
Then, I used my own template to evaluate an OERs to document the creation of the mini-course “Small Group Instruction as a solution to differentiate in Elementary Classrooms”.

I search different keywords in the website OER Commons, until I find a few resources that could be useful for my mini-course. I decided to evaluate the article Whole Class or Small Group Fluency Instruction: A Tutorial of Four Effective Approaches
