This week I am learning about the Kirkpatrick model to evaluate the effectiveness of the minicourse. The model has four distinct levels: Reaction, Learning, Behavior, and Results.

Level 1 is the foundation. The Reaction level assesses how participants respond to the training, including their emotional reactions, engagement, and perceived relevance of the material.

In this week’s assignment, I am focusing on the Course Learning Outcome, CLO5, of the minicourse to create a survey as a system to evaluate the success of the course:

  • CLO1: Summarize the benefits of the small group instruction compared with the whole group instruction.
  • CLO2: Divide the students in 4-5 small groups based on baseline assessments.
  • CLO3: Collaborate to discuss data results and aligned instruction.
  • CLO4: Design and facilitate lesson plans for small group instruction with a Content Language Objective.
  • CLO5: Implement strategies to differentiate instruction based on the students’ needs.
  • CLO6: Assess students’ progress by collecting data regularly.

In addition, this CLO5 is aligned with the Module 3 of the minicourse. In this module, the learner will learn about the 4 strategies recommended for small group instruction:

Module 3: Strategies for small group instruction. After the completion of this module, the educators will be able to:

  • Apply the Cooperative learning strategy sharing an example in the online discussion and adding at least 2 comments to peers’ responses.
  • Apply the Peer evaluation strategy sharing an example in the online discussion and adding at least 2 comments to peers’ responses.
  • Apply the Independent practice strategy sharing an example in the online discussion and adding at least 2 comments to peers’ responses.
  • Apply the Explicit strategies technique sharing an example in the online discussion and adding at least 2 comments to peers’ responses.

Satisfaction Survey

As I explained last week, I decided to use Canvas as the LMS to host the minicourse. My first assignment is to create a satisfaction survey for the learners after completing the Module 3 to collect feedback about their overall experience.

I use the Quizz tool that Canvas has. I also include different types of questions:

  • Likert scales (Level of agreement and scale 1-5)
  • Open-ended questions.
  • Yes/No questions.
  • Multiple answer questions.
  • Multiple choice one (single response).

I had a positive overall experience creating my first quizz in Canvas. I had to read different articles and videos to learn how to create the different types of questions. It was particularly complicated create a Likert scale since this is not a feature in the available options. Finally, being able to publish it and share it was also a challenge, but I was able to create a student account so you can have access to the quiz. I plan to include similar satisfaction surveys at the end of the 3 modules to be able to compare and gather feedback to make the necessary adjustments and increase the quality of the minicourse. I am exploring how Canvas collect that feedback so I can use the data to address the learners’ needs.

Here is the information to access the survey:

  • Canvas: Log in here first!
  • Email: pilargmunoz@hotmail.com
  • Password: IDT400xstudent
  • User name: GoshornIDT400xstudent

Once you are logged in, go to the Small Group Instruction course, then Quizzes (It is one of the options in the Menu at the top right of your screen) and finally open the Module 3 quiz.

Let me know how it goes!
