In the last week of the Capstone Project, we had to evaluate the mini-course that we have been creating in the last months. One of the best resources to evaluate courses is the Quality Matters (QM) program.
I have decided to review the rubric for Professional Development since this is a mini course designed for adults as part of their ongoing professional development as educators. This is the rubric.
In addition to the last resource, I also found interesting the rubric provided by OSCQR website since this rubric focuses on the design and this is an editable pdf that I can easily incorporate in the IDD of the mini-course. I decided to choose this one for both reasons.
This is the evaluation of my course.
After reviewing all the different aspects, this is my reflection:
- Strengths:
- The syllabus includes all the important information requires for the mini-course. For learners and instructors, have all those guidelines and expectations under only one document promotes the alignment and consistency among all the stakeholders.
- Overall, the course meets most of the requirements established in the evaluation. It is particularly strong in interactivity, assessment and feedback.
- Areas of improvement:
- Design and Layout: The content of the course was a combination of different tools commonly used in Instructional Design so I could get familiar with those tools. As a consequence, each component follow the same principals but not all the same aesthetic colors or themes. In the future, I will stick to one theme, font and color and be consistent through the whole course.
